Ask Me Anything – Support for Parents and Carers

This resource is from Belong To, an organisation in Ireland that supports LGBTQ+ young people. It is for parents and carers whose child has come out as LGBTQ+,  and may be feeling unsure or emotional.

How do I respond? How can I best support them? Are my feelings valid as a parent or carer?

This can be a time of uncertainty and change.

However, the most important thing to remember is this: all of your feelings are valid. In fact, there is support available to help you navigate this time, looking after yourself and your young person.

That’s where the   Ask Me Anything  page comes in. This page lets you ask questions anonymously and for free. You can ask anything—big or small—about how to support your child and take care of yourself. Importantly, you don’t need to give your name, and you can use it at any stage of your child’s journey. Moreover, it contains a list of questions that have already been answered, and you can flick through them or search for anything yu may be interested in exploring.

Overall, this resource is really helpful because it gives clear answers and support during a time that can feel confusing or emotional.
