Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

Pre exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an anti-viral medication to stop the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from multiplying in the body. It is available in Ireland in healthcare settings nationwide. This medication is taken by HIV negative people (people who do not have HIV) before having sex with a HIV positive person. This prophylactic measure is taken to prevent the spread of HIV.

PrEP has been shown to be safe through many rigorous studies. If you decide to start on PrEP, it is important to consult your healthcare provider for an assessment and support. PrEP is available through the HSE and many NGOs throughout the nation.

Debunking the Myths is privileged to work with a team of infectious disease experts. Our team proactively tackles the stigma associated with HIV. We achieve this through our series of expert-led workshops for secondary school students in transition year and senior cycle.  We foster open conversations and address questions to promote understanding and compassion.
