Debunking the Myths
The Science Behind Our Sexual Health

Debunking the Myths: The Science Behind Our Sexual Health is a sexual health education programme for teenagers.
In today’s climate of ‘fake news’ it can be difficult to find reliable information about sexual and reproductive health. Moreover, many teenagers are learning about their bodies from film, TV, and social media, which often show standardised images that can perpetuate unrealistic body standards. With this in mind, the RCSI Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in collaboration with The Rotunda Hospital developed Debunking the Myths, to provide clear and reliable information about sexual health in an engaging way.

The programme complements the Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) curriculum for secondary schools. It responds to the need of teachers and students for a trustworthy source of information on a range of clinical topics related to sexual health.
The programme consists of a series of online engagement tools for teenagers as well as live workshops led by STEM experts to explore sexual health.
The workshops are highly interactive and participative, encouraging students to engage with the experts. They provide clear and accurate information in relation to sexual health, stimulating open discussion and curiosity. Moreover, they provide a forum for young people to explore the science behind sexual health. They are encouraged to find, interrogate and evaluate relevant information sources in a safe environment.
