PrEP or Pre exposure prophylaxis is a daily medication that HIV-negative people (meaning, people who don’t have HIV) can take to prevent getting HIV. Think of it as a highly effective tool to stop HIV from multiplying in your body if you’re exposed to it.
People take PrEP before having sex that might put them at risk of getting HIV from someone who is HIV-positive. It’s a way to prevent the spread of HIV.
