Period Taboo: Fear Going to School Less

Fear Going to School Less is a powerful video that brings young boys and girls together to talk honestly about periods and how they affect school participation. Created by the menstrual product company Bodyform, they found that 72% of boys don’t learn about periods in school. In this video they spoke to a mixed group of teenagers from around the UK to find out why so many are missing school because of their periods. They talk about important issues like period poverty (when someone can’t afford period products), period shame, and how they think things can change for the better.

At Debunking The Myths‘ we know that many people still feel uncomfortable talking about periods because of cultural and social taboos. Just like Bodyform, we believe that to weed out the root of these causes we need to stop excluding young boys from receiving education about the female anatomy and periods. The best way to support young people is by talking openly and including all genders in these conversations. When we treat periods as a normal part of life, young people feel more confident and are more likely to keep going to school and doing sports, even during their period.
